1. Background Overview
With the surging demand for high-purity quartz powder in the semiconductor, photovoltaic, and precision ceramics industries, a well-known material processing enterprise in Taiwan urgently needed to expand its quartz ultra-fine grinding production line.
Since Quartz (SiO2) possesses high hardness (Mohs hardness 7) and requires extreme product purity, traditional grinding equipment struggles to achieve high output while avoiding metallic contamination. The client ultimately selected the MQW 30 Jet Mill solution from Epic Powder to achieve high-efficiency, zero-contamination automated production.
2. Core Requirements and Technical Challenges
- Material Characteristics: The high hardnes of quartz easily abrades the inner walls of equipment, leading to excessive metallic impurities in the finished product.
- Particle Size Specifications: The required finished product D50 must be stably maintained between 3 – 4 μm.
- Capacity Target: The production line must achieve a stable output of 100 kg/h.
- Application Field: The final product is primarily used for electronic packaging materials and special ceramics, which demand an extremely narrow particle size distribution.

3. Epic Powder Solution: MQW 30 Jet Mill
To meet these rigorous demands, Epic Powder customized a fluidized-bed MQW 30 Jet Mill system for the client.
Technical Highlights:
- Full Ceramic Lining Design: To achieve “zero-contamination” production, all parts in contact with the material—including nozzles, the grinding chamber walls, and the classifier wheel—are lined with engineered ceramics (Alumina or Silicon Carbide). This not only eliminates metallic impurities but also significantly extends the equipment’s lifespan when processing high-hardness materials.
- High-Precision Classification System: The MQW 30 is equipped with an independently developed high-speed vertical classifier wheel. By adjusting the rotation speed, the particle size cut-off point can be precisely controlled, ensuring the accuracy and stability of the D50 index.
- Low-Temperature Physical Pulverization: The jet mill utilizes energy from supersonic airflow for material self-impact grinding. The temperature rise during this process is minimal, effectively preserving the physical and chemical characteristics of the quartz powder.
4. Delivery Results and Operational Performance
After installation and commissioning at the client’s site in Taiwan, the MQW 60 quartz ultra-fine grinding production line performance exceeded all predefined contractual indicators:
Production Data Comparison Table:
| Performance Item | Client Requirement | Actual Result | Status |
| Particle Size (D50) | 3.0 – 4.0 μm | 3.2 μm | Exceeded Expectations |
| Hourly Capacity | 100 kg/h | 120 kg/h | +10% Productivity |
| Metallic Increment | Zero Contamination | Below Detection Limit | Fully Compliant |
